• MISB — “Mint in Sealed Box.” The figure has never been opened or handled.
• MIB — “Mint in Box.” The figure is in perfect condition with its original box, though the box may have been opened.
• Loose — a figure sold without its original packaging. Loose figures trade at a lower value than sealed ones.
• Mint — a piece in flawless, like-new condition with no visible wear.

Buying and Selling: The Words Around a Drop

• Drop — the moment a new release goes on sale. Limited pieces often sell out within minutes of a drop.
• Pre-order — buying a figure before it ships, securing it in advance of the release date.
• Restock — a new batch of a previously sold-out item made available again.
• Scalper — someone who buys limited pieces solely to resell them at a large markup. Collectors generally resent them.
• Retail — the original release value a figure sells at, used as a baseline when judging a resale.

Community: The Words Collectors Use With Each Other

• Grail — a collector’s most-wanted piece, often rare or long sold out. The item you would build a display around.
• NRFB — “Never Removed From Box,” describing a figure kept permanently sealed.
• Display — how a collection is arranged and shown. A good display is as much a point of pride as the pieces themselves.
• Line / series — a themed group of figures released together, such as a single blind-box series.

Once you know these words, the hobby opens up. A listing that says “MISB chase figure, full set available” now tells you exactly what is on offer.
