Project Overview

Partners: HMG Group (UAE retail-distribution conglomerate) and Geekay Distribution (regional toy and lifestyle wholesaler).

Project Type: Multi-occasion branded merchandise programme — Ramadan/Eid gift sets, UAE National Day commemoratives, corporate event giveaways, and seasonal retail collections.

Scope: Concept → Chinese supplier coordination → ESMA conformity (children’s items) → UAE customs → distribution across HMG and Geekay’s retail networks.

Background

HMG Group and Geekay Distribution serve thousands of GCC retail points: gift shops, mall kiosks, hotel souvenir corners, school stationery aisles, and corporate-gifting B2B clients. The retail calendar in the GCC is heavily seasonal:

  • Ramadan & Eid Al-Fitr (spring/early summer) — gift-giving peak; themed packaging, dates collectibles, premium gift sets
  • Eid Al-Adha (autumn) — second gift season
  • UAE National Day (Dec 2) & GCC National Days — nationalist-themed collectibles, branded keychains, flag-motif merchandise
  • Year-round corporate events — conference giveaways, anniversary commemoratives, milestone gifts

The challenge for HMG/Geekay: each season demands fresh designs, but MOQ from Chinese manufacturers is 500–2,000 units and lead times are 6+ weeks. Without a local distribution layer that holds ready stock, they end up shipping orders late or overcommitting on inventory.

What MUSE Delivered

1. Catalog Coordination

Per quarter, we pre-design and pre-source 20+ SKUs across:

MUSE coordinates production across our supplier network in Guangdong and Zhejiang:

  • Daimio (real B2B partner) — custom plush and keychain capability
  • Maytree — blind boxes and premium-edition runs
  • 30+ specialty manufacturers for branded packaging, apparel, and limited collectibles

MOQ is split across our network — HMG/Geekay can order 100 units of one SKU + 100 of another, rather than committing to 1,000 of a single design from a single factory.

3. ESMA Conformity (Children’s Items)

For items meeting the children’s-product classification (sub-15 cm plush, anything age-recommended below 15), we run EQM conformity in parallel with production. Standard 2–4 week timeline.

For adult-collector or corporate-gift items (clearly age-15+ marketing), conformity is optional but documented for customs review.

4. Customs & VAT Flow

MUSE handles import through our cleared brokers:

  • HS 9503 for toys/collectibles, HS 9505 for festive/carnival items
  • 5% UAE customs duty on FOB (UAE Federal Customs)
  • 5% VAT on CIF+duty (UAE Federal Tax Authority)
  • Input-VAT recovery flows through MUSE TRN, passed to retailers VAT-compliant

5. Distribution to HMG & Geekay Retail Footprint

From MUSE Dubai warehouse:

  • HMG retail network (UAE-wide): 1–2 day delivery via Aramex
  • Geekay regional distribution (UAE + KSA + Oman): 2–4 days
  • Pick-pack accuracy critical — each batch invoiced separately, traceable per retail-point

Why It Worked
